This firey piece was influenced by hearing Leonard Bernstein’s music as a child. The piece was started at the age of 12. I wrote the middle section and finished it just last year! My 13 year old student, Alexis, performed DANCE on the last Student Recital on January 31, 2009.

Through COCA Gretchen and an art instructor create an opera with the COCA summer campers (ages 6-8).   Story line, music, props and costumes come alive throughout the length of the camp and is presented to friends and family at the end of the session.

In 2002 Gretchen was invited by Barbara Harbach, a composer and instructor at University of Missouri-St Louis to participate in a concert of 21st Century St Louis Female Composers. For the concert Gretchen and  wrote and performed with two colleagues, Leon Burke and Lynn Hague, a song cycle for voice, piano and violin intitled “Birdsong” music set to the poems of Rumi.
